". . . Miller’s finesse and technical virtuosity are truly amazing – he combines musical sensitivity with beautifully controlled flamboyance. From the straightforward voicing of Bach’s Toccata & Fugue in d to the very complex registrations in Reger’s Fantasy and Fugue on "How Brightly Shines the Morning Star," this recording will keep you spellbound throughout. "Dan Miller on the Rodgers Organ was unbelievable!"
The Hillsboro Argus, January 2002
You don't even have to be a fan of organ music to be utterly amazed by Dan Miller. He is absolutely one of the best organists in the world. Dan hails from North Carolina originally and was director of music at the huge Calvary church in Pineville. He oversaw the installation of the Calvary church organ (13th largest in the world) and the sound of this instrument alone demonstrates Dan's capabilities. Dan now works for Rodgers Organs in Hillsboro, Oregon; he is responsible for the quality and sound of their products. If you've heard a Rodgers Organ lately, you'll know a genius is behind them! Dan played two concerts in the Toronto/Hamilton areas last year and if you weren't there, you missed the experience of a lifetime! Check out Dan's website at: www.danmillermusic.com and then buy the Calvary Organ Dedication CD. It's been described as the organ CD "to die for!"

MUSIC TO DIE FOR ...

When you listen to Dan Miller play the organ, you definitely feel like
you're in Heaven. The awesomeness of Dan's music is only rivaled by the
awesomeness of his career. Part of Dan's responsibility was to arrange music for, and direct, the Handbell Choir. Always one to look for innovative ways of doing things, Dan's arrangements called for the members of his ensemble to play with two bells in each hand. At one of the ensemble's concerts, a music publisher was in the audience and was so taken with the performance that he asked Dan to write an instruction manual for handbells that was then published along with 16 pieces of Dan's original arrangements. While serving at First Presbyterian, Dan attended Florida Atlantic University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
In 1981, Dan moved to Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale
where he served as Assistant Organist and was the Founding Member and
Director of The Voices in Bronze handbell ensemble. Four years later,
Dan and Sandy, along with their two daughters, found themselves moving
again when they received a call to Calvary Church in Charlotte, North
Carolina. This was to be the Millers' home for the next 14 years.
Despite his full workload, Dan found time to earn a Master of Music
degree in Organ Performance from Winthrop University. |
As the Organist and Minister of Music at Calvary Church, Dan had the privilege
of being part of the design team for Calvary's new organ. This magnificent organ
is the thirteenth largest playable organ in the world and is internationally
renown as one of "the" organs in history. When asked, Dan admits that the
Calvary Grand Organ is probably his favorite organ.
In 1999, after 30 years in church service, God led Dan to his first
full-time secular job as the Product Manager at Rodgers Instruments in
Hillsboro, one of the world's leading organ builders.
With his previous experience as a Minister of Music, Dan knows first-hand what's
needed to put together a worship service; and he knows how flexible organs must
be to accommodate today's trends in contemporary worship while maintaining
traditional appeal. To that end, Dan is involved in almost every aspect of organ
manufacturing - from design and development to product testing and evaluation.
His eyes light up when he talks about the cutting-edge sound technology employed
by Rodgers Instruments, and he gets a dreamy look on his face when he visualizes
the "perfect" organ of the future.
But just because Dan now has a secular job doesn't mean that his ministry
has ended. To the contrary - Dan believes that his work at Rodgers is an
expansion of that ministry.
Like the Calvary Grand Organ, Dan is internationally renowned - as a musical
artist, teacher, conductor, composer and arranger. So far in 2001, Dan has
performed in over 20 concerts and has conducted a dozen workshops for organists,
designed to make their ministries more effective. He's been part of worship
services across the country and across the sea. He's been the featured organist
at symphonies, ensembles, celebrations and events. He's been seen and heard
live, and through recordings, television and the Internet. He's played at the
Mormon Tabernacle and the Crystal Cathedral. He's even performed with the
Muppets! Dan's first CD, The Calvary Organ Dedication, was chosen as "The Organ
CD to Die For" by Stereophile magazine in its February 1994 issue. Dan's 11th
CD, "Rejoice," was released this year.
It would be wonderful if that perfect organ of the future was evolved enough
that anyone could sit down and bring forth angelic tones; but until that day
happens, it's nice to know that God has blessed us all with the gifts of Dan
Miller.
